A good friend of mine just got back from 8 weeks near the North Pole, and I threw together a little Sunday afternoon “welcome home” party. I wanted something simple, yet tasty. Rummaging around the walk-in, I found the ingredients to make this…

So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

8 oz
pasta, i’m using fusilli, cooked al dente
2 c
fresh tomato sauce
6 oz
ground sirloin
6 oz
italian sausage, mild or hot
8 oz
fresh mozzarella
salt, kosher variety, to taste
black pepper, freshly ground, to taste

How to Make Easy Peasy Sausage/Sirloin/Pasta Bake


  • 2Gather your ingredients.
  • 3Place a rack in the middle position, and preheat the oven to 350f (180c).
  • 4Cook the ground sirloin and sausage, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, and reserve.
  • 5Add the cooked al dente pasta to a large mixing bowl.
  • 6Add the tomato sauce, and mix.
  • 7Here is my favorite tomato sauce: Classic Tomato Sauce
  • 8Add the cooked sirloin/sausage, and mix.
  • 9Chef’s Note: At this time add a bit of salt and pepper, to the mixture, to taste.
  • 10Chef’s Note: I’m not adding a lot of additional spices to this dish because most of the flavor is coming from the tomato sauce. However, any additional spices are up to you.
  • 11Grease the insides of a large baking dish, or 4 medium ramekins.
  • 12Add the pasta/sauce/sausage mixture.
  • 13I wanted my dish to be a bit juicier, so I added more tomato sauce.
  • 14Cover with the mozzarella cheese.
  • 15Place in the preheated oven and allow the dish to bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly, and begins to brown..
  • 17Serve with a small side salad, and some nice crusty bread. Enjoy.
  • 18Keep the faith, and keep cooking.

  • 20Additionals: I'm thinking that some black or kalamata olives might give it a bit of a kick, and possibly some sautéed mushrooms...
