This is England on a plate.Typical of pub food. It is considered a poor mans dish. Mince means ground beef.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 2 cups onion chooped
  • 1 pound mince or ground beef
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon sage, dried
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme, dried
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups water or more if needed

How To Make dumplings and mince

  • Step 1
    brown meat and onions, breaking up any clumps. while meat is browning , start making dumplings.
  • Step 2
    Mix flour,sage, baking soda and thyme.Add butter to flour, with your fingers pinch the flour so it looks like pebbles.With your hands, add 1/2 cup of water and mix so it forms a ball.
  • Step 3
    If the ball is to dry add 1 tablespoon water at a time. To wet add 1 tablespoon of flour at a time
  • Step 4
    Divide into 8 small balls.Set aside. Once meat is brown add 1 cup of water bring to a simmer.Stir the meat and place dumplings on top.
  • Step 5
    Cover and cook for about 20 minuetes. If dumplings look raw turn them over and cook 10 min more
