A traditional family favorite of my wife Diane for holidays and birthdays

Ingredients

  • 2-3 pounds stewing beef
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons pepper
  • 1/2 cup white wine for deglazing (optional)
  • 1 large onion (sliced into ¼” strips)
  • 1 large garlic clove (minced)
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup worcestershire sauce
  • 4-4 oz cans button mushrooms
  • 16 ounces sour cream
  • 16 ounces wide egg noodles (cooked per package instructions)

How To Make diane’s beef stroganoff

  • Step 1
    Heat oil and Butter on medium high heat in a large Dutch oven.
  • Step 2
    Mix salt and pepper with flour and toss with beef to coat.
  • Step 3
    Brown beef in Dutch oven remove and set aside.
  • Step 4
    Deglaze pan with white wine and add the onions and garlic, sauté till tender.
  • Step 5
    Return browned beef to the pan.
  • Step 6
    Add ketchup, Worcestershire Sauce and the juice of the canned mushrooms into the mixture. (Set the mushrooms aside)
  • Step 7
    Reduce heat, cover and braise for 2-3 hrs or until tender
  • Step 8
    Mix in Sour cream and mushrooms and heat trough (5min)
  • Step 9
    Serve over egg noodles with warm crusty Italian bread on the side.
