Trying to watch what I eat because of Cholesterol so I've been changing some of my recipes. Here is a burger made with extra lean beef and beans with the right combination of spices that will create the sound of MMMMMMMMMMMM around your table! My husband loved them and even gave them their name!

prep time 20 Min

method Grill
yield 6 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 1 can low sodium black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can low sodium pinto beans
  • 1 pound lean ground beef - 93° or higher
  • 1 cup ground flax seed or wholegrain bread crumbs
  • 1 - cap full of mrs. dash southwest chipotle seasoning blend
  • 2 teaspoons heaping of minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 12 slices of a low sodium cheese, your choice
  • 6 slices of a different low sodium cheese, your choice

How To Make dana's super yummy spicy beany and beef burger

  • Step 1
Rinse your beans in a mesh strainer with running cold water. Rinse well until the water runs clear. Place your rinsed beans in a large bowl and mash them up with a potato masher. You will have some chunks which is fine.
  • Step 2
Crumble your lean beef, (can also use turkey or chicken), add your seasonings. Next either use a spoon or your hands, and mix the burger well. Place about a spoon full of the burger mix in a hamburger press or shape with your hands.
  • Step 3
Take 2 slices of the lowest sodium cheese you can find). I used monteray jack. Fold in half and fold in half again to create 2 small squares and place in the center of your burger, top with more burger and seal the seams well. Repeat with the rest of your burger mix.
  • Step 4
You can grill them on an outside or inside grill or broil them in the oven. Top with more cheese, this time I used swiss, place in a wholewheat roll, and add your favorite toppings. The spices are super in this and we didn't want to cover up those flavors so we used just a little brown mustard. Enjoy.
  • Step 5
I made 6 burgers with this recipe. You can make them smaller or larger. The choice is yours.
  • Step 6
Notes: The ground flax seed is a very good source of Omega-3s. I use it on and in just about everything from my salads, soups, stews, eggs, sauces, and ground meats.
