This is an adoptee recipe. Haven't made it yet, but am looking forward to tasting the interesting combination of things in this dish. Will update when I get a chance to make it. :)

Slow Cooker Crock Pot

onion, finely chopped
minced garlic cloves
1 lb
potatoes, scrubbed and cut in 3/4" chunks
1.5 c
cabbage, coarsely shredded
sliced carrots
1/4 c
long grain rice
1 lb
round steak, cut into 1" cubes
1.5 c
beef broth
3/4 c
red wine
1/4 c
2 tsp
brown sugar, dark and firmly packed
1/2 Tbsp
apple cider vinegar
1.5 tsp
dried thyme
1 tsp
chili powder
1/2 tsp
dry mustard
1/4 tsp

How to Make Crock Pot Stew


  • 1In large crockpot, combine onion, garlic, potatoes, cabbage, carrot and rice.
  • 2Add meat.
  • 3In 4-cup measure or similar bowl, stir together broth, wine, ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, thyme, chili powder, mustard and black pepper.
  • 4Pour mixture over meat and vegetables.
  • 5Cover crockpot and cook 1 hour on high.
  • 6Stir meat and vegetables into sauce, and cook an additional 6 1/2 to 8 hours on low.
