This is an adoptee recipe. Haven't made it yet, but am looking forward to tasting the interesting combination of things in this dish. Will update when I get a chance to make it. :)

Slow Cooker Crock Pot

Ingredients

  • 1
    onion, finely chopped
  • 2
    minced garlic cloves
  • 1 lb
    potatoes, scrubbed and cut in 3/4" chunks
  • 1.5 c
    cabbage, coarsely shredded
  • 1
    sliced carrots
  • 1/4 c
    long grain rice
  • 1 lb
    round steak, cut into 1" cubes
  • 1.5 c
    beef broth
  • 3/4 c
    red wine
  • 1/4 c
    ketchup
  • 2 tsp
    brown sugar, dark and firmly packed
  • 1/2 Tbsp
    apple cider vinegar
  • 1.5 tsp
    dried thyme
  • 1 tsp
    chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    dry mustard
  • 1/4 tsp
    pepper

How to Make Crock Pot Stew

Step-by-Step

  1. In large crockpot, combine onion, garlic, potatoes, cabbage, carrot and rice.
  2. Add meat.
  3. In 4-cup measure or similar bowl, stir together broth, wine, ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, thyme, chili powder, mustard and black pepper.
  4. Pour mixture over meat and vegetables.
  5. Cover crockpot and cook 1 hour on high.
  6. Stir meat and vegetables into sauce, and cook an additional 6 1/2 to 8 hours on low.
