Country Steak with Gravy

3/4 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
4 (4 ounce) cube steaks
6 to 8 tablespoons unsalted butter


1Mix flour, salt and pepper in a bowl. Dredge the steaks in flour mixture. In a skillet, heat butter over medium heat. Brown steaks for 3 minutes on each side and put into a 13 x 9 inch baking dish, save drippings and skillet to use later. Preheat over to 350 degrees.

1 medium yellow onion, halved and cut into 1/4 inch slices
3 tablespoons flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
3 cups warm water or two cups water & 1 cup milk
3Using same skillet, heat it to medium heat, might need to add another tablespoon of butter. Add the onion and cook until soft for 3 to 5 minutes. Add the flour, salt and pepper. Stir to coat the onion, Slowly add the water or milk, stirring until smooth. Stir until thickened. Pour over steaks in baking dish and bake for 15 minutes. Serve with rice or creamed potatoes.
