Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
- 1/2 cup tomato ketchup
- 1/3 cup tomato juice
- 1/2 teaspoon each salt and black pepper
- 1/8 teaspoon red pepper
- 2 - eggs, beaten
- 3/4 cup fresh bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
- 2 teaspoons prepared mustard
- TOPPING
- 1/4 cup tomato ketchup
- 1/2 teaspoon prepared mustard
- 2 teaspoons brown sugar
- OPTIONAL
- - fresh herbs, for garnish
How To Make cottage meat loaf (oven version)

Step 1Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Step 2In large bowl, combine ketchup, tomato juice, salt, black and red peppers, eggs, bread crumbs, onions and mustard.

Step 3Mix until thoroughly blended.

Step 4Add ground beef.

Step 5Mix gently but thoroughly.

Step 6Line a 9 X 5-inch loaf pan with foil.

Step 7Press in the beef mixture.

Step 8In a separate bowl, combine the topping ingredients.

Step 9Mix well.

Step 10Spread topping over the meat loaf.

Step 11Bake at 400 degrees F for 35 to 45 minutes or until done.

Step 12Drain off fat.

Step 13Rest meat loaf for 5 minutes before serving.

Step 14Garnish with herbs, if desired.
