Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 pounds hamburger
  • 1 medium onion - chopped
  • 3/4 cup chunky salsa
  • 1 package taco seasoning
  • 1 can corn
  • 1 cup yellow corn meal
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup shredded cheese
  • 4 ounces diced green chiles

How To Make cornbread and ground meat casserole

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350
  • Step 2
    Spray 9x13 pan with cooking spray
  • Step 3
    Brown the hamburger with the chopped onions.
  • Step 4
    Drain the grease off.
  • Step 5
    Stir in salsa, taco seasoning, and water.
  • Step 6
    Cook until thickened
  • Step 7
    Add drained corn and stir
  • Step 8
    Pour mixture into casserole dish
  • Step 9
    In a large bowl, mix cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt
  • Step 10
    Mix oil, milk and egg
  • Step 11
    Mix wet and dry ingredients together
  • Step 12
    Add cheese and chiles to the cornbread mix
  • Step 13
    Spread cornbread mixture over meat mixture.
  • Step 14
    Bake 35 minutes
