How to Make Classic Swiss Steak

Step-by-Step

  • 1Cut steak into serving portions.
  • 2Combine flour, salt and black pepper in medium-size bowl.
  • 3Roll cut steaks in flour mixture, coating both sides.
  • 4Melt shortening or butter in a hot skillet.
  • 5Brown round steak on both sides, but do not cook.
  • 6Add tomato sauce, onion and green pepper.
  • 7Cook low for 6 to 12 hours, or on high for up to 6 hours.
