How to Make Classic Swiss Steak

Step-by-Step

  1. Cut steak into serving portions.
  2. Combine flour, salt and black pepper in medium-size bowl.
  3. Roll cut steaks in flour mixture, coating both sides.
  4. Melt shortening or butter in a hot skillet.
  5. Brown round steak on both sides, but do not cook.
  6. Add tomato sauce, onion and green pepper.
  7. Cook low for 6 to 12 hours, or on high for up to 6 hours.
