Grilling. It doesn't get more American than that. I suppose one could grill an apple pie during a tailgate party at a baseball game. That would be pretty American. Nonetheless, the heat, the smoke and the seasoning of the grill all combine to provide incredible flavors.

This marinade utilizes two often overlooked ingredients to make your grilled meats pop, coffee and molasses.

This recipe can be used to marinate pork, beef or chicken also.

Ingredients

  • 1
    piece ginger, approximately 1 inch
  • 4 clove
    garlic
  • 1/2 c
    molasses
  • 1/2 c
    coffee, strong
  • 1/4 c
    red wine vinegar
  • 1/4 c
    soy sauce
  • 3
    thai chili peppers (or 1 habanero)
  • 4-5 lb
    beef short ribs

How to Make Chili Molasses Marinated Short Ribs

Step-by-Step

  1. Peel and rough chop ginger.
  2. Place all ingredents in food processor and puree.
  3. Pour this marinade over your short ribs and marinade for 8 hours.
  4. Remove short ribs from marindade reserving marindade for basting and grill low and slow until short ribs are tender basting a few times in the process.
  5. Once ribs are tender, move over very high heat and quickly mark each side of the short ribs.
