(1 RATING)
I made these a couple of days ago, and boy, they feed a crowd. Really good, too, but I made a few additions. Just can't leave a recipe alone!

Ingredients
- - 4 cups pinto beans
- - 2 quarts water (you're gonna need a lot more than 2 quarts, but start with 2 quarts
- - 2 tsp. salt
- - 4 cloves garlic
- - 1/2 lb. hamburger
- - 1 can las palmas chili, no. 2 size
- - 1/4 tsp. oregano
How To Make chili beans
-
Step 1Wash beans til clean. When beans are thoroughly clean, soak overnight. Beans will be cooked in the same water they are soaking in. Following day, boil beans. Before beans start to boil, shred hamburger and add to beans.
-
Step 2Cut garlic and add at same time hamburger is added. Oregano will be added at this time, also. Cook beans for 1 1/2 to 2 hours or ti tender. Be sure to watch in case additional water is needed. Stir occasionally so beans will cook evenly. After beans have cooked 1 1/2 to 2 hours, add salt and Las Palmas chilies and cook another 5 minutes.
-
Step 3Note: Here's what I did: I added a lot more water for cooking the beans, and I also added two cans (15 oz. each) of chili without beans once the beans were cooked. For the Las Palmas chiies, I added a small can of diced green chilies, and a small can of Jalapenos. You may need a bit more salt, also. This is great, filling and makes a boatload for a large crowd.Shredded cheddar or Jack cheese is a great topping, melted or not.
