Ingredients

  • 2 pounds thin sliced round steak
  • 2 teaspoons pepper
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 4 - eggs

How To Make chicken fried steak

  • Step 1
    Sprinkle 1 t. pepper on steak & pound with a mallot until 1/8 to 1/4" thick. Cut into serving sized pieces. Mix flour, 2 t. salt & 1/2 t. pepper. Reserve 3 T. flour mixture for gravy. Beat eggs, dip steak in eggs and into the flour mixture to coat. Cook in a pan with the melted shortening about 2 min. on each side. Remove steak onto a pan lined with paper towels to drain. Discard all but 1/4 c. drppings. Stir in flour mixture, then add milk and water. Cook until thick to make gravy.
