Ingredients

  • 2 pounds round steak, 1/2" thick
  • 2 - eggs, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 cups cracker crumbs
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • - salt and pepper to taste

How To Make chicken fried round steak

  • Step 1
    Cut steak into serving pieces.
  • Step 2
    Pound steak thoroughly.
  • Step 3
    Mix eggs and milk.
  • Step 4
    Dip meat into egg mixture, then into cracker crumbs.
  • Step 5
    Brown, slowly, on both sides in hot shortening.
  • Step 6
    Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Step 7
    Cover, tightly, cook over very low heat 45 to 60 minutes or until tender.
  • Step 8
    Serve with Southern gravy over steaks.
  • Step 9
    Makes 6 servings.
