After a trip to Philadelphia a few years ago, I was hooked. While I can't find the type of rolls/hoagie buns they use in Philly, these still taste great!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound flat iron steak, sliced thin against the grain
  • 1/2 large red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 large orange bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 large green bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 medium onions, sliced
  • 4-6 ounces velveeta cheese or cheese whiz
  • - salt, pepper, garlic salt, to taste
  • 4 - hoagie buns or something similar

How To Make cheesesteak sandwiches

  • Step 1
Preheat large non-stick skillet to medium-high heat. Lightly spray with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Step 2
If using Velveeta cheese, cube the cheese and set aside.
  • Step 3
Season the onions and peppers with salt, pepper, and just a dash of garlic salt. Place vegetables in the skillet and let them cook down just a little, about 5-8 minutes.
  • Step 4
Season meat with salt, pepper, and garlic salt, to taste.
  • Step 5
Add the meat to the skillet with the vegetables and cook until the meat is almost no longer pink (medium rare).
  • Step 6
Carefully drain any liquid from the skillet and return to stove.
  • Step 7
Add the cheese and stir until melted.
  • Step 8
Add the cheesy beef mixture to the buns and enjoy! If desired, toast the buns prior to serving.
