Im sure there are many versions of this dish. I learned how to make this dish from my x who was in the USMC and this is how he liked it...

Ingredients For cathy's usmc sos

  • 1 lb
    lean ground beef
  • 3 clove
    garlic, minced (less if you dont like garlic)
  • 1 lg
    onion, diced
  • 2
    celery stalk, diced
  • 4 Tbsp
    ev olive oil
  • 3/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 c
    evaporated milk or whole milk (2% works too) you can also use 1 cup beef broth and 1/2 cup any milk
  • 1/2 tsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • salt & pepper or cayenne to taste

How To Make cathy's usmc sos

    In a large skillet over medium heat, add EVOO and let it hit up, add onion and celery together until the onion starts to get golden then add and brown the ground beef.

    Add garlic and cook until fragrant.

    Do not drain beef. Add worcestershire sauce.

    Add flour which should completely absorb any liquid in the pan.

    Then you add your milk (or beef broth & which ever kind of milk if your using that) but keep in mind that the measurements are approximate.

    Season with salt and pepper (to taste) and bring to a boil. Reduce your heat and continue stirring, until you have a nice thick milk gravy.

    Serve over toast, biscuits, noodles, rice, pasta or potatoes.

    Side Note: You can also add mushrooms to this dish, not traditional but really good.
