milk

bread crumbs
1/4 c
chopped onion

minced garlic clove
2 Tbsp
butter
1/4 c
parmesan cheese, grated
1 c
mushrooms, sliced
2.5 can(s)
tomatoes, canned italian style with juice
1 can(s)
tomato paste
1.5 tsp
salt
1 tsp
sugar
1/2 tsp
oregano
1/4 c
parsley, fresh and chopped
1/2 tsp
baking soda

How to Make Bev's Meatballs

Step-by-Step

  • 1Mix ingredients in given order one by one.
  • 2After completely mixed by hand, let stand for at least 20 minutes.
  • 3Form into meatballs (golf ball size) and fry slowly until golden brown.
  • 4Do not turn until completely done on one side and do not crowd pan.
  • 5If not using non-stick pan, cook in 1/8 cup of oil.
  • 6Tomato Sauce:
    Saute onion and garlic in butter for 5 minutes.
  • 7Crush tomatoes into medium pieces.
  • 8Add all ingredients except baking soda, mushrooms, and meatballs.
  • 9Simmer in covered saucepan for 1 hour.
  • 10Stir sauce often and keep heat low.
  • 11Add browned meatballs and simmer 30 minutes.
  • 12During last 15 minutes add mushrooms.
  • 13During last 10 minutes add baking soda.
  • 14If sauce is too thick, add water.
  • 15If sauce is too thin, cook uncovered for 15 minutes.
