Ingredients For beef stroganoff

  • 3/4 to 1 lb
    sirloin steak, cut into strips
  • 1 c
    fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1/2 c
    onions, finely chopped
  • 1 clove
    minced garlic
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter or oil
  • 2
    beef bouillon cubes or beef broth packets
  • 1/2 c
    boiling water
  • 1 Tbsp
    tomato paste
  • 1/2 tsp
    dry mustard
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    pepper
  • 1 Tbsp
    flour
  • 1/4 c
    water
  • 1/2 c
    sour cream
  • rice or noodles

How To Make beef stroganoff

    In large skillet, saute mushrooms, onions and garlic in 1 tbls. butter until golden brown. Remove from skillet.

    Add remaining butter and brown meat on all sides for appx. 15 minutes.

    Dissolve beef broth in boiling water, add to meat and add tomato paste, mustard and salt and pepper. Simmer 45 minutes until tender.**

    Add mushroom mix. Combine flour and water and pour into meat mixture, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil and thickens.

    Reduce heat. Stir in sour cream. Heat again but don't boil. Serve over rice or noodles.

    ** At this point, you can add the mushroom mix and transfer to a crock pot and allow to simmer until beef is tender. Follow the rest of the recipe, keeping it in the crock pot.
