beef stew with sauerkraut and sausage

cook this up in the slow cooker. serve with mashed potatoe and a good loaf of bread. what a meal!

Ingredients

  • 5 slices bacon
  • 2 pounds lean stew beef cut into 1in. cubes
  • 2 - onions finely chopped
  • 5 - cloves of garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon caraway seeds
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons gin
  • 1 tablespoon all purpose flour
  • 1 cup dry white wine
  • 1/2 cup undiluted condensed beef broth
  • 4 cups drained and rinsed sauerkraut
  • 1 pound kielbasa sausage cut into 1/4in. slices
  • - sour cream

How To Make beef stew with sauerkraut and sausage

  • Step 1
    in skillet cook bacon over med-high heat until crisp. lay on paper towel. crumble and set aside. drain all but 2 tbls. from pan.
  • Step 2
    add beef in batches to brown, transfer to slow cooker with a slotted spoon.
  • Step 3
    reduce heat to medium. add onions and cook and stir until soft. Add garlic, caraway seeds, salt, pepper,and bacon. cook stirring for 1 minute.sprinkle flour over mixture and cook, stirring another minute. add gin, wine and beef broth cook, stirring until mixture thickens. stir in sauerkraut.
  • Step 4
    add mixtur to slow cooker, stir until all combined. cook on low 8-10 hours or high 4-5 hours or beef is tender. stir in sausage and cook on high 15 minuted or sausage is heated through. top servings with a dollip of sour cream.
