    stew beef, cubed
  • 1/4 c
    butter
  • 1-2
    chopped onion
  • 1 can(s)
    whole tomatoes
  • 6
    carrots, cut into 1/2 inch slices
  • 2
    chopped celery stalks
  • 6
    potatoes, halved
  • 2 tsp
    parsley
  • 5/8 tsp
    thyme
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    pepper
  • 1/4 c
    flour
  • 2
    beef bouillon cubes
  • 3 c
    water
  • 1 c
    red wine
  • 1 c
    small either fresh,frozen, or canned peas

How to Make Beef Stew

Step-by-Step

  1. Lightly salt and pepper beef cubes and coat with flour.
  2. In hot skillet, saute floured beef cubes with butter until lightly browned.
  3. In a heavy pot saute onions until clear.
  4. Add meat, can of whole tomatoes, 3 cups water, bouillon, parsley, thyme, salt and pepper.
  5. Add 1 cup of red wine.
  6. Cover, simmer 1 1/2 hours.
  7. Then add carrots, celery, potatoes and peas.
  8. Cook until tender, about 1 hour.
