stew beef, cubed
1/4 c
butter
1-2
chopped onion

whole tomatoes

carrots, cut into 1/2 inch slices

chopped celery stalks

potatoes, halved
2 tsp
parsley
5/8 tsp
thyme
1/2 tsp
salt
1/2 tsp
pepper
1/4 c
flour
2
beef bouillon cubes
3 c
water
1 c
red wine
1 c
small either fresh,frozen, or canned peas

How to Make Beef Stew

Step-by-Step

  • 1Lightly salt and pepper beef cubes and coat with flour.
  • 2In hot skillet, saute floured beef cubes with butter until lightly browned.
  • 3In a heavy pot saute onions until clear.
  • 4Add meat, can of whole tomatoes, 3 cups water, bouillon, parsley, thyme, salt and pepper.
  • 5Add 1 cup of red wine.
  • 6Cover, simmer 1 1/2 hours.
  • 7Then add carrots, celery, potatoes and peas.
  • 8Cook until tender, about 1 hour.
