Ingredients

  • 3 pounds stew beef, cubed
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1-2 - chopped onion
  • 1 can whole tomatoes
  • 6 - carrots, cut into 1/2 inch slices
  • 2 - chopped celery stalks
  • 6 - potatoes, halved
  • 2 teaspoons parsley
  • 5/8 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 - beef bouillon cubes
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 cup small either fresh,frozen, or canned peas

How To Make beef stew

  • Step 1
    Lightly salt and pepper beef cubes and coat with flour.
  • Step 2
    In hot skillet, saute floured beef cubes with butter until lightly browned.
  • Step 3
    In a heavy pot saute onions until clear.
  • Step 4
    Add meat, can of whole tomatoes, 3 cups water, bouillon, parsley, thyme, salt and pepper.
  • Step 5
    Add 1 cup of red wine.
  • Step 6
    Cover, simmer 1 1/2 hours.
  • Step 7
    Then add carrots, celery, potatoes and peas.
  • Step 8
    Cook until tender, about 1 hour.
