beef essentials: crispy, spicy beef

This is an easy/peasy way to make crispy beef, and after the marinating, it can be ready in a matter of minutes. The sriracha, and tamari blend perfectly with the coconut sugar, garlic, and ginger to produce a amazing depth of flavor. I will be trying this marinade on some chicken breasts tomorrow. Ingredients For beef essentials: crispy, spicy beef

  • 1 lb
    beef roast, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 c
    pineapple juice
  • 2 Tbsp
    tamari sauce
  • 2 Tbsp
    coconut sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    toasted sesame seed oil
  • 1 Tbsp
  • 1 Tbsp
    chili sauce
  • 1 clove
    garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp
    ground ginger
  • rice, for serving
  • toasted sesame seeds, for garmish

    I am using a beef bottom round for this recipe, but you could always try different cuts.

    To get a good sear on the steak, use a good heavy-bottomed pan, or Plancha grill (iron griddle). Cast iron is excellent for this recipe.

    Gather your ingredients (mise en place).

    Thinly slice the beef against the grain.

    Chef’s Tip: If you place the beef in the freezer for about 30 minutes, it will firm it up, and make slicing easier.

    Using a bowl or Ziploc bag, mix the reminder of the ingredients together, and then toss in the beef.

    Place in the refrigerator for 1 – 2 hours.

    Heat up your pan or Plancha grill to high heat. Lay the beef in the pan or grill, in a single layer, and allow to cook until beginning to crisp, about 1 – 2 minutes per side.

    Chef’s Tip: Do not crowd the beef, or it will steam, not crisp.

    My favorite way to serve this is in a bowl with some long-grained white rice, and sautéed carrots. Enjoy.
