Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons olive oil, extra virgin
- 4 cups onion, sliced
- 2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar
- - salt to taste
- 3/4 pound lean ground beef
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1/4 cup chopped parsley
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 4 - hamburger buns
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- - lettuce leaves
How To Make beef burgers with caramelized onions

Step 1Split and toast hamburger buns.

Step 2In a small bowl, combine the bulgur with 1/2 cup warm water; let stand for 30 minutes, or until the bulgur is tender and the water is absorbed.

Step 3In a large non-stick skillet, heat oil over low heat.

Step 4Add onions and sugar; saute until the onions are tender and dark golden, about 15 minutes.

Step 5Stir in 1/4 cup water and vinegar.

Step 6Season with salt and keep warm.

Step 7Prepare the grill or preheat the broiler.

Step 8In a medium bowl, combine the bulgur, beef, tomato paste, parsley, 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper; mix thoroughly but lightly.

Step 9Shape into four 3/4-inch-thick patties.

Step 10Grill over high heat or broil on a lightly oiled rack until browned and cooked through, about 5 minutes per side.

Step 11Blot the patties with paper towels.

Step 12Place each patty on a bun, top with the caramelized onions and garnish with lettuce.
