Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup thinly sliced celery
  • 2 cups cabbage, shredded
  • 1/4 cup green pepper, chopped
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon prepared mustard
  • 8 - hamburger buns

How To Make beef and cabbage joes

  • Step 1
    Hamburger buns should be split and toasted.
  • Step 2
    Cook and stir the meat, onion and celery in a large skillet until the meat is brown.
  • Step 3
    Drain off the excess fat.
  • Step 4
    Stir in the cabbage, green pepper, ketchup, water, salt and mustard and heat to boiling, stirring occasionally.
  • Step 5
    Reduce the heat and cover.
  • Step 6
    Simmer until the vegetables are tender, about 25 minutes.
  • Step 7
    Spoon the mixture onto the bottom halves of the buns and top with the remaining halves.
