beef and brocolli stir-fry

I have made this for company many times over the years.... and they have loved it....

Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef sirloin steak, boneless
  • 2 bunches brocolli
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 pint fresh mushrooms
  • 1 can water chestnuts
  • 1 teaspoon chinese five spice powder
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon beef boullion or instant beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon peanut oil
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • - cooked rice, chowmien noodles, or cooked lomien noodles, or cooked spaghetti

How To Make beef and brocolli stir-fry

  • Step 1
    Trim fat from beef and slice into 2 inch strips
  • Step 2
    Coat beef with 1 tablespoon of Soy sauce and let set 30 minutes while prepping vegetables
  • Step 3
    Peel onion and cut in thin wedges.
  • Step 4
    Trim bottom 3 inches or so of solid stem off of broccoli. Cut apart broccoli head into 2 inch strips.
  • Step 5
    Wash and slice mushrooms.
  • Step 6
    Heat peanut oil in Wok or heavy skillet, add chopped garlic, and Chinese 5 spice.
  • Step 7
    Add beef and stir-fry.
  • Step 8
    When beef is done move to edges of pan and add vegetables, onion, mushrooms, and broccoli and stir fry until tender.
  • Step 9
    Place cornstarch in a 2 cup measuring cup, add 2 cups COLD water, stir well until cornstarch is dissolved, add to this beef bullion,and remaining soy sauce.
  • Step 10
    Slowly add liquid mixture to vegetables and meat. Bring to a simmer and cook stirring gently until sauce forms and thickens.
  • Step 11
    Serve over rice, chow-mien noodles, or soft lo-mien noodles.
