beef and apple stew

I know, it sounds odd, but it is pretty good. I use to make it for an old bachelor friend, who just loved it. Always served it with just crackers. Give it a try!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound top round of beef, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 - medium onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 - tart apples, like granny smith, peeled, cored and sliced
  • 1 can (13 3/4/oz) beef broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground sage
  • 1 - medium potato, peeled and cubed
  • 1 cup frozen peas and carrots, thawed

How To Make beef and apple stew

  • Step 1
    In a large saucepan over med-high heat brown the beef in oil.
  • Step 2
    Stir in the onion and cook until tender.
  • Step 3
    Stir in the flour, apples, broth and sage. Heat to a boil then reduce the heat.
  • Step 4
    Cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours or until the meat is tender. Add the potatoes and simer another 20-30 minutes. Stir in the peas andcarrots and simmer to heat through.
