I know, it sounds odd, but it is pretty good. I use to make it for an old bachelor friend, who just loved it. Always served it with just crackers. Give it a try!

  • 1 lb
    top round of beef, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 2 Tbsp
    olive oil
  • 1
    medium onion, sliced
  • 2 Tbsp
  • 2
    tart apples, like granny smith, peeled, cored and sliced
  • 1 can(s)
    (13 3/4/oz) beef broth
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground sage
  • 1
    medium potato, peeled and cubed
  • 1 c
    frozen peas and carrots, thawed

How to Make Beef and Apple Stew


  1. In a large saucepan over med-high heat brown the beef in oil.
  2. Stir in the onion and cook until tender.
  3. Stir in the flour, apples, broth and sage. Heat to a boil then reduce the heat.
  4. Cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours or until the meat is tender. Add the potatoes and simer another 20-30 minutes. Stir in the peas andcarrots and simmer to heat through.
