Ingredients
- 5 large sweet potatoes, peeled, cubed
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- pinch nutmeg
- - salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 - onions, diced
- 1 - celery stalk, finely chopped
- 1 - carrot, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon chili flakes
- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
How To Make basic shepherds pie

Step 1Preheat oven to 375.

Step 2Bring large pot of water to a boil, cook potatoes until tender, about 20 minutes; drain.

Step 3Add milk, butter, nutmeg, salt and pepper to potatoes and mash until smooth and fluffy.

Step 4Saute onions, carrot and celery in oil over medium heat for 5 minutes.

Step 5Sprinkle with thyme and chili flakes.

Step 6Add ground beef and cook until no longer pink.

Step 7Stir in roast beef, sprinkle with flour, then pour in beef broth, tomato paste, worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper; stir well.

Step 8Reduce heat and cook for 5 minutes.

Step 9Spread meat mixture in a square casserole, spread mashed potatoes over and bake 35-45 minutes until heated through.

Step 10Place under broiler for 1 minute.
