Ingredients

  • 6 pounds beef brisket
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 4 - onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups water, divided
  • 16 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1/8 teaspoon hot sauce
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch

How To Make barbecued brisket

  • Step 1
    Trim excess fat from brisket and place fat side up in a roasting pan.
  • Step 2
    Sprinkle with salt, pepper and garlic.
  • Step 3
    Place onion slices over meat.
  • Step 4
    Bake, uncovered, at 350 for 1 1/2 hours.
  • Step 5
    Combine 1 1/2 cups water, tomato sauce, and next 8 ingredients; pour over brisket.
  • Step 6
    Cover with aluminum foil and bake 2 hours or until tender, spooning sauce over brisket occasionally.
  • Step 7
    Transfer brisket to serving platter and pan juices to a saucepan.
  • Step 8
    Combine cornstarch and remaining 1/2 cup water.
  • Step 9
    Gradually add to pan juices, stirring constantly.
  • Step 10
    Bring to a boil; boil 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  • Step 11
    Serve with brisket.
