Apparently this is a rarity on the West Coast as my California cousins had never had brisket before! It's a wonderful entree for a group and if there are leftovers, makes great sandwiches.

Ingredients

  • 4-5 lb
    brisket of beef
  • 1 can(s)
    beef consomme
  • 1/4 c
    lemon juice concentrate
  • 1 Tbsp
    liquid smoke flavoring
  • 1 tsp
    worcestshsire
  • 1 tsp
    seasoned salt
  • 1 tsp
    ground pepper
  • 1 c
    barbecue sauce

How to Make Barbecued Brisket

Step-by-Step

  1. Combine ingredients (except barbecue sauce) and pour over brisket to marinate overnigvht.
  2. Preheat over to 300 degrees. Cook in marinade about 1 hour per pound. During the last half hour uncovder, top with barbecue sauce and continue cooking until tender.
  3. I sometimes put the marinated beef in a slow (175 degree) oven and let it cook all night. Then finish it at a higher heat the next day.
