This is one of the three dishes I make when I'm craving meat! So easy, so good.
Blue Ribbon Recipe
Skip heading to a restaurant on Valentine's Day and prepare a special meal at home. This filet mignon is tender juicy. Once broiled, the bacon crisps slightly and adds a touch of smokiness. What we loved is the wine sauce with fresh mushrooms. It's rich, savory, and enhances the filet mignon.
Ingredients For bacon-wrapped filets with sauteed mushrooms
beef filets, round (if you can't find round ones, find a nice thick piece of sirloin and trim it into two circles)
butter * (add a little more if needed)
coarse ground pepper and salt
How To Make bacon-wrapped filets with sauteed mushrooms
Test Kitchen Tips
We cooked our filet for 4 minutes, turned, and cooked for another 4 minutes.
Trim meat, making two round circles. Gather ingredients.
Wash and slice mushrooms. Melt butter in a small frying pan over medium heat. Saute mushrooms until soft. Reduce heat to low, continue cooking until butter is almost gone.
Then add wine. Let simmer until you're ready to use them.
Wrap each circle with 2 overlapping bacon slices and fasten with toothpicks, if necessary. Season each with salt and pepper, both sides.
Lower broiler rack to 4" below a broiler (unless you like your steaks rare*), cook steaks to your preference, turning once, making sure the bacon is browned. (*if you like your steaks pretty rare, no need to lower the broiler rack, basically you just wanna cook the bacon and sear the tops.)
When steaks are done, plate and cover with the sauteed mushrooms. ENJOY!!
