My kids loved watching "The Cosby Show" episodes years ago. My son wanted to try Cliff and Theo Huxtable's Bacon Burger Dogs. I came up with these. Just a fun food for our family! [To improve the healthfulness, I used natural, lean meat products, and served it with Roasted Kale Chips and mixed fresh berries. The kids prefer beef hot dogs and no kale chips.:)]

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds extra lean ground beef
  • 1/4 cup onions finely chopped or 1 tablespoon onion flakes
  • 1 - large egg
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1/8-1/4 teaspoon garlic powder or one clove fresh garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/8-1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional-most of my family does not like spicy!)
  • 6-8 - hot dogs
  • 6-16 - natural bacon slices (1-2 slices per b.b.dog)
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce (your favorite)
  • 6-8 - hot dog buns or steak rolls
  • - cheddar cheese and/or condiments of your choice

How To Make bacon burger dogs

  • Step 1
Blend first 7 ingredients by kneading them together.
  • Step 2
Using a bit more than 1/2 cup of the beef mixture, patted into a rectangle, wrap each hot dog. Cover it completely so that it looks like a cylinder.
  • Step 3
Wrap bacon around the outside of the burger dog. If using thinly sliced bacon, I would recommend using two slices.
  • Step 4
Grill the bacon burger dogs until the beef mixture is thoroughly cooked (well done). Be careful to turn them and cook well on all sides.
  • Step 5
When cooked completely, brush with bbq sauce to your taste.
  • Step 6
Serve on buns or rolls with extra bbq sauce, a slice of cheddar cheese, or other condiments of your choosing.
  • Step 7
    Enjoy!
