My kids loved watching "The Cosby Show" episodes years ago. My son wanted to try Cliff and Theo Huxtable's Bacon Burger Dogs. I came up with these. Just a fun food for our family! [To improve the healthfulness, I used natural, lean meat products, and served it with Roasted Kale Chips and mixed fresh berries. The kids prefer beef hot dogs and no kale chips.:)]

Ingredients For bacon burger dogs

  • 2 lb
    extra lean ground beef
  • 1/4 c
    onions finely chopped or 1 tablespoon onion flakes
  • 1
    large egg
  • 1 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 1/8-1/4 tsp
    garlic powder or one clove fresh garlic
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    black pepper
  • 1/8-1/4 tsp
    cayenne pepper (optional-most of my family does not like spicy!)
  • 6-8
    hot dogs
  • 6-16
    natural bacon slices (1-2 slices per b.b.dog)
  • 1/2 c
    barbecue sauce (your favorite)
  • 6-8
    hot dog buns or steak rolls
  • cheddar cheese and/or condiments of your choice

How To Make bacon burger dogs

  • 1
    Blend first 7 ingredients by kneading them together.

    Using a bit more than 1/2 cup of the beef mixture, patted into a rectangle, wrap each hot dog. Cover it completely so that it looks like a cylinder.

    Wrap bacon around the outside of the burger dog. If using thinly sliced bacon, I would recommend using two slices.

    Grill the bacon burger dogs until the beef mixture is thoroughly cooked (well done). Be careful to turn them and cook well on all sides.

    When cooked completely, brush with bbq sauce to your taste.

    Serve on buns or rolls with extra bbq sauce, a slice of cheddar cheese, or other condiments of your choosing.
