How to Make Baba's Hungarian Goulash

  1. Cut beef into squares.
  2. Chop onion and (the optional green pepper if you like) and brown in shortening until tender; add paprika and stir.
  3. Add beef and let beef simmer in its own juice for 1 hour stirring often so that it does not stick or catch.
  4. Add sliced carrots and simmer for 1/2 hour. Add water and diced potatoes and simmer until potatoes are done. Serve with Baba's homemade dumplings.
    3 cup flour

Mix ingredients until smooth. Drop by edge of tablespoon into pot of boiling water. Cook about 10 minutes or until done. Drain. Add to goulash or serve goulash over dumplings.
