How to Make Baba's Hungarian Goulash

  • 1Cut beef into squares.
  • 2Chop onion and (the optional green pepper if you like) and brown in shortening until tender; add paprika and stir.
  • 3Add beef and let beef simmer in its own juice for 1 hour stirring often so that it does not stick or catch.
  • 4Add sliced carrots and simmer for 1/2 hour. Add water and diced potatoes and simmer until potatoes are done. Serve with Baba's homemade dumplings.
    3 cup flour
    1/2 cup water
    3 eggs
