asian essentials: salt & pepper beef bites

To be honest, the original dish is made from thin pork chops, and deep fried. My version uses charcoal steaks, and the air fryer. I think that you will enjoy them. You can serve them as a snack, or place them on top of a steaming pile of rice for a meal… Up to you. So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

Ingredients

  • PLAN/PURCHASE
  • THE DIPPING SAUCE
  • 2 tablespoons tamari sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons fresh clover honey
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds
  • THE BEEF
  • 1 pound charcoal steak
  • 1 large egg, just the white
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, kosher variety
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper, freshly ground
  • 1/2 cup arrowroot powder, or cornstarch

How To Make asian essentials: salt & pepper beef bites

    PREP/PREPARE
  • Step 2
    Gather your Ingredients (mise en place).
  • Step 3
    THE DIPPING SAUCE
  • Step 4
    Whisk all the ingredients together in a small bowl, and reserve.
  • Step 5
    THE BEEF
  • Step 6
    Cut the charcoal steak into random pieces.
  • Step 7
    Whisk the egg, with the salt and pepper, until foamy.
  • Step 8
    Add the beef, thoroughly coat, and allow to rest on the countertop for 20 – 30 minutes.
  • Step 9
    Add the arrowroot powder, or cornstarch to the beef, and thoroughly coat.
  • Step 10
    Shake off the excess, and add to the basket of your air fryer.
  • Step 11
    Set the temp to 375f (190c), and cook for 12 – 15 minutes.
  • Step 12
    Chef’s Note: Let the air alone for the first 5-minutes of cooking, then shake the basket about every other minute.
  • Step 13
    Increase the heat to 400f (205c), until the beef is nice and brown, about an additional 3 – 5 minutes.
  • Step 14
    PLATE/PRESENT
  • Step 15
    Serve while nice and warm with the dipping sauce. Enjoy.
  • Step 16
    Chef’s Note: These would go just as well with a more “American” dipping sauce, such as: Honey Mustard.
  • Step 17
