Ingredients

1/4 c
butter
2 c
cooked pork, beef, turkey or chicken
1 medium
onion, chopped
2 c
diced celery
1 1/2 c
hot water
1 can(s)
bean sprouts, drained or
1 can(s)
mixed chinese vegetables, drained
1 tsp
salt
***
thickening & flavoring
2 Tbsp
cold water
1 Tbsp
soy sauce
2 Tbsp
cornstarch
1 Tbsp
sugar

How to Make Chow Mein my Mom's Way

Step-by-Step

  • 1Melt butter in skillet. Add onions and cook 3 minutes. Add celery, salt, pepper and hot water. Cover and cook for 5 minutes. Add bean sprouts or mixed Chinese vegetables and meat. Mix thoroughly and cook 5 minutes. Combine thickening and flavoring ingredients; add to meat mixture, stir, cook 1 minute.
  • 2Serve hot over cooked rice and/or with chow mien noodles.
