1 1/4 cups sugar

3-6 lemons, zested and juiced to yield 1/3 cup zest and 3/4 juice, divided
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups whole-wheat pastry flour or white whole wheat flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
