Here's how to make a traditional Irish Apple Cake

"Do NOT skip the custard sauce!..."

INGREDIENTS
Cake:
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, cold, cubed
3/4 cup sugar, plus 2 tablespoons (for sprinkling on top of cake)
4 large granny smith apples, peeled and sliced thickly
2 large eggs
3/4 cup whole milk
Custard sauce:
6 egg yolks
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups whole milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
