Gingerbread Cake

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/4 tsps baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp ground ginger
1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
3/4 tsp ground cloves
3/4 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup dark brown sugar (lightly packed)
3 large eggs (room temperature)
3/4 cup fancy molasses (do NOT use blackstrap, see Tips section of post)
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
3/4 cup buttermilk (room temperature)
1 1/2 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
8 oz cream cheese (full fat, room temperature)
4 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
