INGREDIENTS
for the apple filling/syrup:
2 and 1/2 lb. peeled, cored, sliced apples (you can use some quince, plum and pear too)
3 Tablespoons unsalted butter
3/4 cup dark brown sugar, packed
1 Tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg OR pumpkin pie spice
1/2 teaspoon ginger
3 bay leavesfor the cake/crust:
3/4 cup butter + 2 Tablespoons
3/4 cup sugar
4 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 and 3/4 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking sodafor the whiskey cream:
2 cups heavy whipping cream
3 Tablespoons powdered sugar
1 Tablespoon pure vanilla extract
6 Tablespoons whiskey or bourbon
