There seem to be many recipes for gargles to help a sore throat. Most viruses and bacteria are susceptible to acids, alkalines, or salt. Whereas bacteria can develop a resistance to antibiotics, this is not the case with most home remedies. Remember that salt based and baking soda based gargles can be drying, so have some water handy to drink or gargle with after you use them.
