On those hot, sweltering days, my mom would always have a batch of this mixed. All we had to do was add the ice, fruit and water. We enjoyed these quenchers all summer long. I always keep this around for those hot, humid days, such as today. Enjoy!

yield 2 cups syrup

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons lemon zest, grated
  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • Ice - & water
  • maraschino - cherries and lemon slices

How To Make ~ lemony quencher ~

  • Step 1
In a small saucepan, mix together sugar, water and zest. Bring to a boil and remain boiling for 5 minutes. Remove from burner and cool.
  • Step 2
    Add lemon juice and mix.
  • Step 3
When ready to serve, fill 16 ounce glass with ice, add 5 - 6 tablespoonfuls of syrup, a couple cherries and a slice of lemon. Stir, taste - add syrup until you achieve desired lemony flavor and sweetness. I add 5 tablespoons for a 16 ounce glass. That's a perfect mix for me. I don't like it too sweet. Enjoy! It's great on a hot summers day.
