This is a recipe from the Italian region Salento, which is the heel of the Italian boot. You have to use ice cubes fresh from the freezer, i.e. "dry" cubes, or the coffee will water down too much. Make sure you add the sugar to the boiling hot coffee in the cup, stir well and then pour it over the dry ice cubes.

  • 1 cup espresso
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 ice cubes

How To Make caffè in ghiaccio

  • Step 1
    Brew a very strong espresso and add the 2 teasspoons of sugar, stir well so the sugar dissolves completely.
  • Step 2
    Put two dry ice cubes (directly from the freezer, not slightly thawed) into a glass and immediately pour the steaming hot espresso over them.
  • Step 3
    The coffee cools immediately, so you can drink it immediately which you should do or it will water down...
