ayran with rose water

I love ayran! It is wonderfully refreshing. I've prepared many renditions of this ayran recipe: replacing the rose water with orange blossom water, adding a pinch of ground cardamom, a light drizzle of pomegranate molasses...etc...Adapted from turkishcookbook.com. Note that this is not a sweet beverage, but you can add a little bit of honey or sugar, to taste to desired sweetness.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups plain yogurt (turkish or greek) or kefir
  • 1/2 cup filtered water, cold or more to thin
  • 1/2 teaspoon rose water, to taste
  • pinch salt
  • - fresh mint leaf for each serving, to garnish

How To Make ayran with rose water

  • Step 1
    Place all ingredients in a blender *except* for the mint leaves. Blend for about 35-45 seconds.
  • Step 2
    Pour into glasses and garnish each glass with a mint leaf.
