This is a really creamy and thick hot chocolate. Being that it's the fall time now and it time warm the body on those chilly days. I thought I would share this recipes. My kids cant get enough of it.

method Refrigerate/Freeze
yield 4 -8oz cups

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces square of semisweet chocolate bar
  • 6 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 3 cups half and half
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream, whipped
  • 1/2 teaspoon instant coffee powder (optional)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water

How To Make not your mama's hot chocolate

  • Step 1
    dissolve the cornstarch in water
  • Step 2
    heat 1 cup of half and half and heavy cream in a large saucepan
  • Step 3
    Break chocolate into small pieces and add to half and half mixture. stirring constantly with a whisk.
  • Step 4
    add instant coffee to mixture (optional)
  • Step 5
    after cornstarch have dissolved in water add it to the rest of your half and half. you should have 2cups leftover.
  • Step 6
    slowly add sugar to chocolate mixture (whisking)
  • Step 7
    then add the rest of your half and half/cornstarch mixture to chocolate (whisk)
  • Step 8
    It will take about 8-10 minutes for chocolate mixture to thicken up. constant whisking
