A true Jamaican drink that has been enjoyed for generations. Always served hot and enjoyed with friends. I might add that it one is so inclined a wee splash of rum does it no harm at all.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup grated whole (unsweetened) chocolate
  • 1 tablespoon grated nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon powdered cinnamon or a stick of cinnamon bark
  • 6 cups water
  • - sweetened condensed milk to taste
  • dash salt -optional

How To Make traditional jamaican chocolate tea

  • Step 1
    Combine grated chocolate, grated nutmeg, and powdered cinnamon in a pot.
  • Step 2
    Add 6 cups of cold water. Bring to a boil. reduce heat. Let simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Sweeten with sweetened condensed milk. Optional dash of salt.
  • Step 4
    Note: unsweetened chocolate makes a great drink. If no sugar or milk is added to it, it can last several days. It may look unappealing when it cools and the natural oils in it coagulate. However, simply it bring to a boil and it will be smoother each time.
