When I was little, a dear friend would make this for us whenever we'd visit her home. She was generous enough to pass it on to me. She is from Venezuela, so it's possible that it's a Venezuelan treat but I don't know that for sure. The slight taste of anise is so pleasing and not overwhelming.

Ingredients For porridge drink

  • 1 1/2 c
    milk, separated
  • 1
    cinnamon stick (or healthy pinch of cinnamon)
  • 1 pinch
    star anise
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    corn starch
  • 1 pinch
  • sugar to taste

How To Make porridge drink

  • 1
    Mix 1 cup milk and spices (cinnamon & anise). Boil for 15 minutes, slowly - simmer. Strain out spices.

    In a cup mix cornstarch and 1/2 C milk mix well until all dissolved. Mix slowly into hot milk mixture, stirring constantly.

    Add salt and sugar to taste. If desired, add little butter and stir again. Serve with cinnamon stick in cup or sprinkle with ground cinnamon, if desired.
