    1/2 cup heavy cream
  • ·
    6 cups whole milk
  • ·
    3 t. vanilla extract
  • ·
    1/4 t. salt
  • ·
    1 pint heavy cream, chilled for whipping
  • ·
    2 t. powdered sugar
  • ·
    12 oz. bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped
  • ·
    grated bittersweet chocolate, for garnish

How to Make Hot Chocolate


  1. In pan, over medium heat, mix the 1/2 cup cream, milk, vanilla and salt and slowly bring to a boil. Whip the pint of cream with the powdered sugar until soft peaks form; set aside. Put chopped chocolate into a small pot or heavy bowl. Melt by pouring the hot milk mixture on top, and thoroughly whisking until all chocolate is melted. Pour melted chocolate back into pan. Stir well, heat until steaming and remove from heat. Serve at once with fresh whipped cream and chocolate shavings on top. Serves 10 to 12
