authentic irish coffee
This is a replica of the coffee served at the Shannon Airport in Ireland. It was re-created by the owner of the Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco.
Blue Ribbon Recipe
Yum! We absolutely loved this authentic Irish coffee. It's a strong cup of coffee slightly sweetened with sugar and just a bit of Irish whiskey. The best part is the frothed cream on top. As you drink the hot coffee through the cream, it magically mixes together. It will warm you up on a cold winter day. This is definitely an adult-only coffee.

- 1 ounce heavy cream
- 1-2 teaspoon sugar
- 1 ounce Irish whiskey
How To Make authentic irish coffee
-
Step 1Use fresh, cold water to make coffee - 2 rounded tablespoons per 6 oz. cup (makes a very strong coffee).
-
Step 2Fill a 6-8 oz mug with hot water (to warm).
-
Step 3In a bowl, whip or froth cream lightly, so it is still pourable.
-
Step 4Empty water from mug. Add hot coffee and sugar; stir to dissolve.
-
Step 5Add whiskey; stir.
-
Step 6Hold a spoon upside down over mug and slowly pour the cream over the spoon, allowing it to float onto the top of the coffee.
-
Step 7Do not stir - drink through the cream.
