I hate eggnog but my son loves it. I found this recipe and it is fabulous but if you forget and allow it to go to a boil, you better have a very fine sieve available or the eggnog will be very gritty.

Ingredients For eggnog

  • 4 c
    milk or half and half
  • 5
    whole cloves
  • 1/2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp
    ground cinnamon
  • 12 1/2
    egg yolks
  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 2 1/2 c
    light rum
  • 4 c
    cream
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground nutmeg

How To Make eggnog

    1. Combine milk or half & half with 1/2 tsp. vanilla and cinnamon in a sauce pan and heat over lowest heat setting for 5 min. Slowly bring mixture to a boil.

    2. In a large bowl combine egg yolks and sugar. Whisk together until fluffy. Whisk hot milk slowly into the eggs. Pour mixture into saucepan. Cook over medium heart stirring constantly for 3 min. or until thick. Do not allow mixture to boil. Strain to remove cloves and let cool for at least 1 hour.

    3. Stir in rum, cream, 2 tsp. vanilla and nutmeg. Refrigerate overnight.
