This is a tweaked recipe of a tweaked recipe. Infusing usually takes days, so to have it done in hours is a treat! There's a hint of holiday spice, a nice citrus layer and it's great for larger gatherings since the prep work is done ahead and all you have to do is put the components into a shaker and enjoy! Adapted from A Spicy Perspective

Ingredients

  • 2 cups vermouth (sweet or dry)
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 2 - cinnamon sticks
  • 6 - whole cloves
  • dash cayenne
  • dash sea salt
  • - bourbon (i used pendleton)
  • - angostura bitters
  • 1 - orange, half cut into thin slices, half cut into wedges
  • - lemon-lime soda

How To Make jeni takes manhattan

  • Step 1
    Pour vermouth into a small pan and heat to just below boil. Remove from heat and add allspice, cinnamon sticks, cloves, cayenne and salt. Cover and let sit at least 2 hours.
  • Step 2
    Strain spiced vermouth through a mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a container.
  • Step 3
    To make an individual drink, place in a shaker: 2 oz bourbon 1 oz spiced vermouth 1-2 dashes bitters juice of 1 wedge of the orange ice
  • Step 4
    Shake well and pour into a martini glass. Top with a splash of lemon-lime soda. Float a thinly sliced orange on top.
  • Step 5
    Toast to the holiday season!
