Gramma used to do something like this with red wine during the holidays, but I never liked the after taste of heavy red wines. When I moved out on my own I noticed that I really missed the smell of this simmering through the house though! So through some trial and error (and a completely content to be a guinea pig husband!) I finally came up with this. It's similar to a wassail I guess, but wasn't really based on one.

Slow Cooker Crock Pot


  • 1 small
    bottle of rum (how tipsy would you like to get?)
  • 1 gal
    apple cider
  • 1 - 2 large
    orange sliced thin (i prefer blood oranges)
  • 5
    cinnamon sticks
  • 15
    whole cloves
  • 1 Tbsp
    lemon juice
  • 3/4 c

How to Make Holiday Toddy


  1. Place all wet ingredients into a large crock pot.
  2. Drop in cinnimon sticks, cloves and sugar. Stir until sugar is completely dissolved into mixture.
  3. Finally, drop orange slices into mixture and allow them to float freely.
  4. Keep crock pot on warm setting all day. The smell through the house is amazing, and if its cold out this is guaranteed to warm you through and through.
