Note: I add some room temp sparkling water to the mixture while simmering it to make it a little less strong. I add the sparkling water until I get the taste I prefer.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle 750 ml dry red wine
  • 3 - 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 4 - whole cloves
  • 1 - stick of cinnamon
  • 4 - slices lemon + more for garnish

How To Make gluhwein (hot mulled wine)

  • Step 1
    In a pot, heat above ingredients to just a slight simmer...do not let boil.
  • Step 2
    Remove from heat and let steep 5 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, remove spices and cooked lemon. Then add a fresh slice of lemon to each glass before pouring the hot wine over it.
