This is a delicious and refreshing Mardi Gras cocktail. It's a deep sunset shade of red, so it has an appealing presentation, too.

It's best with the mix of light and dark rum. But in a pinch, you can use only one type of rum if that's all you have on hand. Using all dark rum is perhaps the better option, but all light rum works OK.

  • 1 oz
    light rum
  • 1/2 oz
    dark rum
  • 1/2 oz
    orange liqueur (such as cointreau, triple sec, etc)
  • 1 oz
    lemon juice
  • 1 oz
    cranberry juice
  • 1 splash
    lemon-lime soda (sprite is recommended, but any lemon-lime soda will work)
  • 1
    lime wheel, for garnish
  • 1/4 cup

How to Make Fat Tuesday Rum Runner


  1. Place ice cubes in a Collins glass.
  2. Add 5 or 6 extra ice cubes to a cocktail shaker. Pour the rum, Cointreau, lemon juice and cranberry juice over the ice. Shake vigorously until well blended.
  3. Strain into the Collins glass, then top off with a splash of lemon-lime soda. Garnish with a lime wheel, add a straw and serve immediately.
